The days continue…

2010 Arvada, Colorado. The iPhone phenomenon of selfies begins.

2013 Arcella, Italy. Near my house, the ‘original’ church of St. Anthony undergoes a renovation.

2014 Padua, Italy. One of the things I miss most about my time in Italy; the older woman who wore their fur coats and fluffy hats with pride. Usually accompanied by a small similarly decked out doggie.

2015 Padua, Italy. A typical scene at the train station. This particular photo inspired me to write a poem that is actually in my collection called: Back to the Fall. And available right here in eBook form on my website. Here is the poem…

I met you in Paris

I did

I really did

Though in truth we were no where near it

Instead, in the piazza one day, I looked up and

there you were

An illuminated city

I fell

I fell so far

I still felt optimistic every day could be like this

Old enough to know how shrapnel could bite the skin

We began a romance

And all our days became the trains

Because you lived far away

As far away as Paris, you joked

Every hello kiss led to a goodbye hug

We'll always have Paris, you said, eyes laughing

The train doors closed

I reached out

People said it wouldn't last;

the distance, he speaks another language,

the age difference

I dream of you, and Paris

I'm wise enough to recognize you are an old soul

Old enough to know I need you to keep me young

Last night before today's goodbye hug

You ran a finger up my Seine

I tasted truffles on your lips

We watched the news

They can try, you said, but they'll never take away Paris

This morning the train pulled out of the station

You waved goodbye

That night more bad news on the television

So much destruction

It burned my eyes

But I also saw a city of lights

2016 Arcella, Italy. A view from my window in an apartment I originally thought back in 2012 I would be in for a few weeks, and ended up living there for 9 years.

2017 Arcella, Italy. And herewith, the woman bundled up and her matching puppy!

2018 Between Padua and Venice, Italy. During my many years in Italy I had my own chauffeur, Roberto. Actually, he was my kind and understanding boyfriend who basically never trusted me to drive his car. Lucky me, I got to spend countless hours on trips we took together taking pictures.

2020 Valencia, Spain. Along the park that runs like a spine around the old center of town.

2021 Macae, Brazil.

2022 Arvada, Colorado. My house, but not my stuff. I feel so fortunate to live a life that has none of this baggage. Give me a rolling suitcase and a backpack, and it’s enough. Though, let me tell you, it leads to a very cluttered mind most of the time.

2024 Between Hue and Danang, Vietnam. One of my favorite things to do in Vietnam is rent a motor scooter and get lost in all the villages that dot the landscape, and visit the locals whose only fear of strangers is… well, they have no fear. Just abundant curiosity. I hope this way of life never vanishes.
